There are few things that are certain in life, and as much as we love certainty, this thing I’m going to address – most people like to avoid.
This topic is something that personally used to freak me out but now it inspires me. Read on.
I remember having a break down as a child – crying and being so scared; but luckily my mother was there for me to answer my questions and comfort me.
The fact that we all die is scary! We usually push that thought way out of our minds and try not to think about it. But in my adult life, my fear of death kept me from traveling often and taking certain actions. In many ways it holds us back from fully living!
However, I have come to look at this ending as a positive tool for transformation. I recently transformed my ideas about death into something that really inspired me to enjoy my life more.
Let me explain…
Most of the time we have a tendency to avoid any topic about death – especially when it comes to people we love (including ourselves). It can seem morbid and depressing.
But let me offer you a new perspective.
As I began to think about the possibility of death, I began to think about the possibility of fully living.
Similarly, when some people have a terminal illness, they don’t take a moment for granted; they live in gratitude – even if they are in pain.
Too often, we take advantage of our lives without fully living, because we push this idea of an ending out of sight; out of our minds.
Let’s be honest. There is nothing exciting about thinking about death. I get it. But, there is something to be said about appreciating your precious human life. My wish for you in bringing this topic to the surface, is for you to be inspired to live your best life now.
Steve Jobs said, “Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”
What if you lived each day as if it were your last?
How easily would you let go of anger?
How much quicker would you forgive?
How much kinder would you be?
How much more fun and joy would you have?
How much more would you love?
Contemplating your life in this way can be extremely helpful. I invite you to join the conversation and share your answers below.
Go consciously in the direction of your dreams and live your best life now!
